Lively, Floral Abstract Paintings Inspired by Spring

Lately I’ve been painting flowers, fields and grass in bright multicolors. Experimenting with washes of paint, bold brushstrokes and palette knife marks across the canvas. The resulting paintings are lively, colorful floral abstracts.

Longing for Spring in Toronto

The winter in Toronto this year was long and relentlessly cold with several major snowstorms. So the arrival of sunny days and glimpses of spring weather are really influencing my paintings. I've been longing for the snow and ice to melt for good this year. Most Torontonians are eagerly waiting for the flowers to bloom and grass to grow.

My new floral abstract paintings shown here are the imagined spring blooms that will hopefully appear soon in Toronto. After an exceptionally harsh winter, I can't wait for spring and these new paintings show it!

Multicolored Vibrant Paintings of Flowers and Grasses

These very colorful abstract flower painting include many different shades of greens, yellows, purples, blues, oranges, and multicolors in between! This floral artwork is even more colorful and lively than my other recent abstract paintings (see my Dot Series and Fluid Series).

Shown above is an 18" x 24" painting on canvas that I finished last weekend. Beside is a closeup view of the same multicolor artwork.

The painting has green grasses, blue background shades, and abstracted floral marks in reds, pinks, purples, whites and yellows. The artwork is very energetic and vibrant because of the bright colored brushstrokes and palette knife marks applied in many angles and directions.

Abstracted Flower and Grass Paintings in Yellow and Purple

Below are closeups of two 24" x 18" paintings on canvases finished last week. I started these two paintings on the first day of spring, last March 20th, 2019. It was a cold and snowy day in Toronto and I was feeling very ready for spring. You can see earlier versions of these two artworks in this blog post "Paintings Celebrating the First Day of Spring."

Purple and Yellow Color Palettes

Yellow and purple color combinations have been dominant in many of my recent paintings and color studies. The two abstract floral paintings shown here in closeup have mostly shades of yellow and purple. The painting also has blues, yellows and lighter oranges and pinks.

Like the multicolored painting above, these two purple and yellow paintings were created with washes of watery paint, lively brushstrokes and palette knife marks. Just below are closeups of each Purple and Yellow Floral Abstract painting.
