Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day! July 1st is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. For anyone wondering, July 1st is the national day of Canada. Kind of like our July 4th, but without the independence part. Keep reading to learn more about Canada Day...

The History of Canada Day

Canada Day celebrates the effective date of the Constitution Act, 1867 (then called the British North America Act, 1867), signed on July 1, 1867. July 1st was originally named Dominion Day because the Act united the three separate British colonies of the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada. (From Wikipedia).

Since 1982, July 1st has been called Canada Day with celebrations taking place throughout the country and around the world wherever you'll find proud Canadians. When I lived in Washington, DC, I enjoyed attending the Canada Day BBQ party at the Canadian Embassy. There was always at least one Mountie on a horse in attendance!

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Canada Day!
