Solo Art Show
In-Between: Perspectives on Artist-Motherhood
My next art exhibition is a solo show! Opening on Monday September 25th and continuing until October 6th, 2023 at The Gales Gallery, located at York University, Toronto. Curated by MA student, Abbey Humphreys-Morris, and featuring painted and drawn works by MFA student, Rachael Grad, as well as a virtual reality experience with digital designer Jacob Loat, this show seeks to explore aspects of motherhood, and how one fits an artistic practice in-between moments of mothering.
Learning from her children and the stolen minutes of artmaking between childcaring, Grad brings play, silliness, and experimentation into her studio practice. The practice of play is integral to the longevity of the artist-mother and to the self-identity preservation of a feminist mothering experience. We hope all participants partake in play as part of their experience of the show. This exhibit is free and open to everyone.
Gallery hours are 10 am to 3 pm, with an opening reception taking place on Wednesday October 4th, 12-2 pm and a panel discussion with me, Abbey and Jacob on Friday October 6th, 12:30 pm.
Gales Gallery is located at 8 Accolade East Building, York University, 4700 Keele Street, Toronto, ON M3J 1P3.
I hope to see you at the art opening or panel discussion!
With the start of my second and final year in the Master of Fine Art graduate program at York University, I may not post as frequently to this Art Blog. I will continue trying to send out my art newsletters every month or 2. You can join my art VIP Art List here (or click here to learn more).
