Motherhood Hit Me Like a Train, Sleeper Train 6, 2024, Watercolour and Ink on Paper, Framed at 28" x 36."
Parenting is 24-7 and requires countless all-nighters with babies and children. The Sleeper Train tonal paintings in my “Motherhood Hit Me Like a Train” series reflect the all-consuming, always-on-call role of motherhood. Many nights rocking newborn babies felt like I was on a never-ending train to nowhere. As a new parent I felt derailed as an artist, but always knowing there is a light at the end of the tunnel as the children grow. I eventually found a way to get back on track and set a new route.
This original artwork is painted with black ink on heavy weight watercolor paper. Instead of paint brushes, I use toy trains to make black and grey lines on the white page. The line artwork is matted and framed in a black matt frame. Shown on view in Toronto in May 2024.
