Three Toy Horse Drawings
Most children love animals and horses. Some kids, especially young girls, adore music boxes and carousel horses. Pretty horses are featured in fairy tales and kids' fantasy story books. Even though they are frozen, the horses on the music box seem to be in motion and animated. The lines of the horses' hair and legs are lively and active.
A treasured music box was the inspiration for these three drawings of horses. The two horses in the drawings rest on top of a wooden music box. The toy was a gift to my sister and has been living at my parents' house for a long time. Despite its age, the music box still works. The horses turn on their stand when the music is turned on.

The horse drawings shown here are part of an original drawing series from 2015 and 2016 when I drew toy animals from life. As part of a Daily Drawing Project, I began drawing a large Toy Elephant, which my main subject in early 2015. Then I started drawing other toys including this music box with two horses. As an ongoing series, I am making unique, one-of-a-kind paintings and drawings of favorite stuffed animals and other toys.
Animals and inanimate objects, especially toys, that take on human characteristics to their owners. Happy memories with the toys make them more precious and treasured by children and adults. The toy animals take on emotional significance as their owners transfer feelings and human characteristics to the toys. The word anthropomorphic sums up this quality:
