In celebration of July 1st, 2015, my favorite Canadian holiday, I gathered up these Canadian-themed home decor items. I love checking out local Ontario flea markets and adore Canadiana home decor and gifts.
Hudson's Bay Company Map Linen Tea Towel
I originally posted parts of this Oh Canada Gift Guide for the Canada Lover post on Apartment Therapy in 2011. Some Apartment Therapy readers criticized a few of my picks as too kitschy and tacky!
In response to that criticism, I've added some new gift ideas and updated my Canadian gift recommendations.
Despite the Apartment Therapy criticism, I decided to include some of the original Canada Gift Guide picks for fun! If you want a fun hostess gift for a cottage visit or you're a general fan of Canada, check out my picks below. Canada Cheeseboard from Love My Local on the One of a Kind Online Shop
Top on my list is the larger than life size Mountie I saw in an antique store in Port Carling, Ontario in 2011.
New to my Canadiana list (and perhaps slightly more classy) are a Raven Totem Bookend, Group of Seven Mugs, a Canada Cheeseboard, Native Canadian Soap Stone Carvings, a Vintage Moose Pillow, P'tite Poutine Porcelain Bowl, and the Oh, Canada: Contemporary Art from North America book.
Group of Seven Art Mug Set from the McMichael Canadian Art Collection
Other fun Canadian gift items (that some may find kitschy) include maple syrup candles, totem pole stacking mugs, and Mountie cocktail napkins. Of course the classic Hudson's Bay blanket was included in the original list, though some may think that it's too obvious of a gift.
Prices on these gifts range from $5 (cocktail napkins) to $1,000 (limited edition print supporting The Canada Pavilion at the 56th International Art Exhibition. At $1,000, the limited edition print may be more suitable for a very extended cottage stay hostess gift or a special occasion.
